Surprise Party 100
mesiba.live
A gift site for Tal Friedman and Matan Helek, hosts of the Israeli comedy podcast "Mesibat Haftaa", for their 100th episode. Nobody commissioned it. It came from a listener.
Shown on air in episode 98, in a tour of almost nine minutes

The challenge
A gift site only works if the people receiving it recognize themselves within three seconds. The hosts would open it on a phone, probably from a WhatsApp link, and a single wrong detail about their show would kill the joke. It also had to hold up if the link escaped to thousands of listeners.
What I did
- Built a research file from the official feed and transcripts of every episode: a lexicon of 352 terms, 180 quotes, the recurring segments, the rankings, the animals and the guests. Every fact on the site traces back to it.
- Designed a single long page that behaves like an episode: fake timestamps beside each section, an opening you have to press and hold to get in, and a hidden "surprise at the end of the episode" for whoever scrolls all the way down.
- Added a games room and rankings visitors take part in, with live leaderboards, plus a mock "hotline" written in the show's voice.
- Built an admin panel to update the episode count, new episodes and leaderboards without a rebuild, and kept the site current episode by episode up to 100 and beyond.
- Used only real material: sound clips from the episodes supplied by the show's editor, and the theme song with permission.
The decision that made the difference
Build the site like an episode, not like a site about one. Instead of a tribute page with warm words, the page runs in the show's own order and speaks the show's own language. The humor is never explained. Someone who doesn't know the show isn't supposed to get it, and that is exactly what tells the people who do that somebody was really listening.
What came out of it
- The site was shown on air in episode 98 (September 27, 2026), in a tour of almost nine minutes (75:16 to 84:00) led by the show's editor.
- Tal Friedman, on air: "This is a great site! A site made well, with a lot of heart."
- The link went into the episode description.
- The site lives on its own domain, mesiba.live.
